Last year, REME Veteran and Chelsea Pensioner Chris O’ Connor along with friend and colleague Geoff Read embarked on an adventure: the Veterans Car Rally in Gibraltar, which also coincided with the 80th anniversary of REME.
On Thursday 11th November, a small team from RHQ REME and HQ London District, led by Colonel REME and the Corps Secretary, began a very busy weekend of Corps remembrance with a visit to this year’s Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey.
Last month, Maj (Retd) Geordie Wright-Rivers had the honour and pleasure of visiting 98 year-old Corps veteran Dennis Tocknell in Dursley, Gloucestershire to present him with his newly refurbished medals, new beret and Corps tie.
The REME Family came together at the National Memorial Arboretum on Thursday 29 September 2022 to commemorate and celebrate the Corps in this the 80th anniversary year.
A big thank you is in order for LCpl Tanya Checkley, who recently organised a coffee morning and fundraising alongside her local Girl Guiding unit and has donated funds raised to the REME Charity.

WO2 (AQMS) Frank Fillary had been serving with 18th (5th Bn The Loyal Regt [North Lancashire]) Regt, Reconnaissance Corps in Malaya when he was reported Missing in Action prior to his death being announced in 17 1942 at the age of 25. His remains were never found and he is commemorated, along with 24306 others, at the Singapore Memorial at Kranji Cemetery in Singapore.
Earlier this month the Corps HQ hosted a small delegation of our ex-REME Chelsea Pensioners from the Royal Hospital. The aim of the day was to introduce our Pensioners to some of the Army’s current fighting equipment and new technology and to familiarise them with some of the trade training facilities at the Corps’ new home in MoD Lyneham.
Cpl. Martin Kingangi is walking 100km in under just 30hrs this weekend, to raise money for the REME Charity.
